October afternoon at

Aidla’s Connemara Ponies

In October 2025, I visited a Connemara pony breeding farm while organizing a photoshoot with Springfield Shetland Ponies. I hadn’t realized beforehand that the farm was also home to a Connemara breeding program, which made the visit even more special.

The owners warmly welcomed me and took the time to show me around, sharing insights into their breeding and introducing each mare and foal. It was inspiring to see how the horses live, on vast pastures with small wooded areas, offering them space, freedom, and a natural environment. It felt like an ideal place for a young horse to grow up.

On the first pasture, we found the Shetland pony mares with their foals, cuteness overload, especially as a fan of the breed. On the second pasture, the Connemara mares and foals were grazing peacefully. When the owner called them for their evening hay, they came running toward us all at once, such an atmosphere, full of energy and anticipation.

Afterward, the herd settled again, calmly moving across the pasture while I took photographs.

On the final pasture, young Connemara and Shetland ponies were living together. As they were fed their evening hay, we stayed for a while, cuddling the ponies and talking about their personalities and development.

For me, these quiet, unstaged moments are when the most natural and honest photographs are created.
